Week 29
The Shunammite Woman
Block: Home Circle
This woman was not named, but she was a woman who served the Lord. She
was evidently a wealthy woman. Elisha the prophet visited her house
regularly, so she asked her husband to build a room for Elisha so that he
would always have a place to stay when he came to visit. Elisha was
grateful, and wanted to know if there was anything he could do for her.
She asked for nothing in return, but Elisha prophesied that she would have
a son, which she did. This woman was an example of how someone who wants
to serve the Lord can do so by serving His children.
I chose cheerful fabrics for this block, thinking of a hostess building
and decorating a room for her honored guest.

Week 30
Athaliah & Jehosheba
Block: Grandmother's Own
Athaliah was the grandmother of King Joash of Judah. She was a daughter
of Ahab and Jezebel. When her son, Ahaziah, who had been king, was killed,
she wanted to keep the power for herself, and had all the royal princes
(her grandsons) killed. Jehosheba was a sister of Ahaziah. She took the
baby prince, Joash, and hid him in the temple so he wouldn't be killed.
Six years later he was crowned king of Judah, and his grandmother was put
to death.
I chose gold for the entire royal house that was involved in this
story, and red for the grandmother's treachery.

Week 31
Huldah
Block: Scroll Work
When the young King Josiah was shown a "lost" book of the
law, he sent the high priest to Huldah, a prophetess, for her advice and
insight into the scripture.
I chose a fabric with a graphic pattern that reminded me of writing to
represent the scroll that was found. The yellow represents the light of
God's Word, and the green represents the life it brings.

Week 32
Esther
Block: Persian Star
The story of Esther is a perfect fairy tale story. A young Jewish girl
is chosen for her beauty to become Queen of Persia. And, if that's not
enough, she is able to use her position to save her uncle and the entire
Jewish community. We never know when God is going to place us somewhere
and use us "for such a time as this."
This was a complicated block, and difficult to hand piece. I thought a
lot about how much more complicated Esther's life must have been after she
was chosen than it was when she was just an average girl. I chose rich,
jewel-like colors to represent the beautiful queen she became.
